Jackals split pair over weekend

INSTITUTE, W.Va. — Six different players reached double digits for the West Virginia Grind in a 118-100 The Basketball League victory over the Jamestown Jackals on Sunday at West Virginia State University.

William Collins led West Virginia with 22 points, Tamon Scruggs had 21 points and seven rebounds, Christian Johnson had 19 points and six rebounds, Rondale Watson had 14 points, Taylor Ryan had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Jarin Hilson had 12 points and five rebounds.

The Grind led 28-18 after the first quarter and 54-39 at halftime.

Nicholas Harney led the Jackals with 26 points, while Marcus Feagin had 17 points and 15 rebounds.

West Virginia shot 39 of 77 (50.6%) from the field, including 13 of 31 (41.9%) from 3-point range, while Jamestown was just 30 of 89 (33.7%) from the field and 9 of 33 (27.3%) from 3-point range.

Behind a dominant first half, the Jackals led from start to finish and breezed past Flint United 94-75 at the Physical Education Complex at Jamestown Community College.

Joshua Dominguez led four players in double figures with 18 points, and Tafari Beckford, Magnus Richards and Tyler Rowe added 16 apiece.

Jamestown wasted little time building a lead, carving out a 25-11 advantage after the first quarter, a margin that ballooned to 55-26 at halftime and 61-29 early in the third period.

Brandyn Carpenter and Michael Bruce both had 17 points for Flint United, and Levane Blake chipped in 13, but the visitors shot just 37% from the floor.

Meanwhile, the Jackals held a whopping 63-39 rebounding advantage, led by Marcus Feagin’s 13. Teammate Nicholas Harney was credited with nine steals.
