Knights post hoops win over Saegertown

Visiting Saegertown may have been hoping Eisenhower was tired after playing Maplewood on the road 24 hours earlier, but the Knights showed no signs of it Wednesday night as they beat the Panthers 67-55.

The Johnny Palmieri hit two 3-pointers to help the Knights jump out quickly on a 10-4 scoring run to start the game and they never looked back. With four seconds left in the quarter, Kris Bunk was at the free throw line, he sank the first shot, missed the second but got his own rebound and put it in off the glass for two points at the buzzer to the hosts up19-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Knights’ lead grew to 30-14 by halftime as Wyatt Lookenhouse couldn’t miss, scoring 8 of his team’s 11 points in the quarter.

“I was proud of the guys,” Eisenhower coach Ryan Mangini said. “I was a little worried we’d come out flat after a tough loss the night before, but we came out aggressive and we were smart with the ball to open the game.”

The Panthers began to press the Knights in the third quarter and chipped away at the deficit, but Bunk scored 9 of his 18 points, including a deep 3-pointer from the corner, and Eisenhower’s lead was 14 heading into the final period.

Saegertown managed to close within seven points with 2:38 left, but Lookenhouse scored 8 of his game high 25 points in the fourth quarter and Palmieri added another trey to keep the Knights in front.

Eisenhower was led by Lookenhouse, who took game honors with 25 and Bunk added 18. Saegertown was led by Brady Greco with 17.

Saegertown won the junior varisty game 35-25. The Knights were led by Gavin Lindemuth who had 10 points. The panthers were led by Luke Young’s 13 points.

“I thought it was our most complete game we’ve played so far this season,” Mangini said. “We had great ball movement by our guys, we executed very well. I thought our guards handled their press team well in the second half. We have a big game tomorrow at home against Cochranton for Senior Night that we have to get ready for. It would be great to have another big crowd at that one, because tonight’s crowd was awesome.”
