KANE — Ten Warren Little Dragon and Kinzua Wrestling Club wrestlers competed in the Jarret Costanzo Memorial Wrestling Tournament at Kane Area High School on Sunday. The tournament featured first- and second-year grapplers from western Pennsylvania and western New York.
In the 6-and-Under Division, Uriah Campbell placed third. Campbell nearly upset the eventual champion with an early takedown directly to his back, but his Bradford opponent fought out of Campbell’s hold and finished the match in the third period. Campbell was very strong from the bottom throughout the tournament scoring an escape and multiple reversals.
In the 8-and-Under Division, teammate James Sheats placed fourth. Sheats wrestled very aggressively and was always smiling. In his first match he scored multiple takedowns and reversals from scramble situations putting his opponent’s back to the mat several times. His third opponent conceded a forfeit instead of facing the little torrent.
Phinn Betts pinned every opponent except one, dropping a tough decision to the champion from West PA Spartans. His double leg, high crotch, and single leg takedowns consistently brought his opponents to the mat where his half-Nelson finished business.
Micah Campbell dominated his bracket en route to an undefeated first-place finish. With a takedown, let-them-up approach, he relied heavily on the farmer’s throw finishing three of his four opponents by fall and outscoring his competition 31-10.

First-year wrestler Knox Young placed fourth with an exciting comeback victory. After giving up a takedown in the first period, he tied the match up 2-2 with a takedown of his own in the second. After rolling through several near-fall attempts in the third period, the score remained tied. In the sudden victory stanza, Young managed two good snapdowns before finally securing the victory with a go-behind.
Mary Bennett left a path of carnage behind, placing first as she marched through four consecutive opponents. She routed the runner-up with a 12-7 decision and pinned her way through the remaining competition using a devastating half-Nelson.
In the 10-and-Under group, second-year wrestlers Oliver Drescher and Hunter Ingerson both placed first in their brackets. Ingerson’s most impressive victory came as he transitioned from a front headlock to a very tight nearside cradle for a first-period fall. Not to be outdone, Drescher scored an 18-2 technical fall notching four first-period takedowns with a knee pick, duck under, high crotch and sweep single.
In the final bracket of the day, KWC’s Eli Dodge and Warren’s Josh Foust collided in a faceoff for second place. Dodge built a 4-0 lead with takedowns in the first and second periods before Foust drew within two, scoring a takedown of his own in the third period. Undeterred, Dodge managed an escape with 10 seconds remaining to secure a 5-2 victory.
