At Bradford, Warren nets 6-1 victory

BRADFORD — Warren’s girls tennis team evened its regular-season record at 7-7 overall with a 6-1 win at Bradford.

“Our season is starting to wind down and we wanted to give some of our starters a little rest today and give some new players some varsity opportunity,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino.

Iris Kiehl defeated Lilly Kemick, 6-0 6-0, at first singles, and Lucy Harrison defeated Jaylee Kappenhaver, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 for her 11th win this season.

At third singles, Warren’s Natasha Ferry defeated Sophie Cornelius, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 4, Kaelin Hatfield defeated Sydney Hamer, 6-3, 6-2.

“All of our singles played some great tennis today and we were very happy with the results,” said Warren assistant coach Mike Kiehl.

At top doubles, Izzy Heacox and Mackenzie Lester defeated Lilly Kemick and Sophie Cornelius, 8-3.

“This was Mackenzie’s first match back since fracturing her ankle the third day of the season, so we were just happy to have her back on court,” said Pellegrino. “The team district semifinals are on the 18th so we are trying to ease her back into it so she’s ready for the big match.”

At second doubles. Jahzara Hunter and Anna Courson made their varsity debut, but fell short losing 3-8 to Bradford’s No. 2 and 4 singles players.

“This was a tough match-up for two first-year players, but we were impressed with how they held up,” said Pellegrino.

Warren’s Madalynn Perry and Lily Seyler defeated Eli Curcio and Sophia Wright, 8-0.

“This was a fun match to watch as It was Lily’s first varsity match and first varsity win,” said Pellegrino.

“We now travel to Erie on Saturday to take our singles to districts.”
