FAIRVIEW — The Warren High unified track and field team completed its busy week Thursday with a meet against host Fairview, General McLane and Northwestern.
The Dragons fell to all three, but demonstrated improved times since their meet on Tuesday. Ryder Check, Jacob Elmquist, Julia Getner, Colton Ristau, Keely Southworth and Isaac Zapel all dropped time in the 100 meters. Attie Corey, Wade Lewis and Peyton Vincent dropped time in the 400 meters, where Lewis ran an impressive time of 1:18.59. Check and Ristau added distance to their javelin throws, and Lorelei Johnson and Lewis increased distances in the long jump.
Also displaying significant strides was the 4×100-meter relay team of Zapel, Ristau, Peyton Horner and Sophia Fromknecht, dropping time in just two days. The 4×400 relay team made an impressive debut on Thursday where all four members put forth a great effort to take second place.
“Fairview put on a great meet yesterday, and our team came prepared!” commented head coach Cayla Onoratti. “Despite tough competition, every single one of our participants put forth their best effort and, as coaches, we cannot be more excited to see how the rest of our season plays out.”
The Dragons host the Corry Beavers at War Memorial Field on Monday at 4:15 p.m., their one and only home meet of the season. Admission is free.
“We are hoping for a great crowd to help cheer on our team in our first-ever home meet!” added Onoratti.
