YOUNGSVILLE — Fun.

That’s the best way to describe Warren’s first victory of the season, 50-28 over nonregion Girard on Friday at Youngsville High School.

Yes, Youngsville High School. The Dragons moved a home game to the neighboring county school due to War Memorial Field renovations.

It was probably most fun for three starters who happen to attend Youngsville High School, but also play for the Dragons through a co-op. One of those Dragons, senior Ethan Senz, rushed for 135 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown.

“Bringing the whole team here and getting the win, which was the most important thing, was great,” said Senz after the game.

It was Warren’s first win after two lopsided defeats to open the season.

“We’ve been preaching effort the last couple weeks,” said Warren coach Mark Morelli. “And, tonight, with the effort they gave, the scoreboard shows the results of that.”

Especially the second quarter. Tied at 7-all, Warren scored 36 points to lead 43-13 at halftime.

After Cayden Wright’s second of three touchdown receptions gave Warren a 15-7 lead, another Youngsville senior paved the way. Literally.

Alan McAllister blocked a punt that landed in the hands of Tommy Nyquist, who then raced 19 yards for another Warren score. Nyquist finished with three touchdowns — one rushing, one receiving, and one on the return, and added two interceptions on defense.

“We had that last game here in eighth grade, and to have the ability to come back and play here (Mike Shine Field) again, it’s fun,” said McAllister. “I thought this field was done (being used).”

Everyone got in on the act. Wright also assisted Nyquist on a hook-and-ladder play that went 50 yards from scrimmage, first a 5-yard pass to Wright, then Nyquist took it the rest of the way. Wright finished with 150 yards on seven catches.

Eric Dippold had 213 yards passing on just eight completions — four for touchdowns. That, and the defense had Girard’s quarterback running for his life.

“The field’s never looked this nice,”said Brandon Sutton, a starting tackle for the Dragons and a Youngsville High School student. “And honestly, it felt good to play here again.”
