Berkhous rolls consecutive 300s at JBC

Tab Berkhous

JAMESTOWN — In the sport of bowling, one of the most impressive achievements is a 300 game.

A 300 game is the highest possible score and is attained by recording a strike in every frame. In a traditional single 10-pin game, this means one strike in each of the first nine frames and three strikes in the 10th and final frame.

What is even more noteworthy and rare than one 300 game? Rolling two consecutive perfect games with no mistakes or blemishes.

But 24-year-old Pennsylvania resident Tab Berkhous made it look easy when he accomplished the feat last week during the Thursday night Scratch Doubles League at Jamestown Bowling Company.

According to Jamestown Bowling Company’s Facebook page, it was only the fifth time someone has bowled multiple consecutive 300 games in the same league.

Berkhous, who started bowling at the age of 2, has now delivered a total of 22 perfect games over the span of his career.

“I guess you can say it’s kind of like an escape (from everyday life),” Berkhous explained when asked about what he enjoys the most about the sport. “It has just been kind of like a family thing. My entire family has bowled so it has just been something my family has done together. … I have bowled pretty much all the way through. Unfortunately, where I went to school, we did not have a bowling team. But I did bowl in leagues at that time.”

He bowled two 300 games in the same three-game series earlier this year in Corry, Pennsylvania. But he has never done it in consecutive games like he did last week at JBC.

“I would not really say (it was on my mind) a whole lot,” Berkhous said. “I was kind of more blank-minded. Just trying to focus on hitting my shots and that is about it. … I mean it is not too often that you hear about that. I am very grateful that I have been able to do it twice in a year. It is definitely something that I consider a memory of mine.”
