Rally thwarted

Warren comeback cut short in 9-7 loss to Huskies

The Warren High baseball team almost had a repeat of last-inning magic on Friday evening as they hosted the Harbor Creek Huskies.

Earlier in the week, the Dragons scored three runs in the bottom of the 7th against the Meadville Bulldogs to win 4-3. Friday evening was almost déjà vu as they crossed the plate four times in the final inning, but fell short to the Huskies by a narrow 9-7 margin.

Tied at one a piece, the Huskies scored eight runs between the 3rd and 4th innings to take the commanding 9-1 lead. The Dragons notched two more runs in the bottom of the 6th to cut the Huskie lead to six.

With the rally caps on in the 7th, the Dragons scored to make it 9-4 and then Broc Bryan smashed a 3-run home run to get within two runs at 9-7.

Unfortunately for the home team, it was all for not as they would go down with the next two batters striking out to end the game.

Recording hits for the Dragons were David Manning, Bryan, Colin Zdarko, Zane Carlson and Bradey Chase. Harbor Creek’s Connor Fortin earned the win and Zane Carlson was the losing pitcher in the outing.

Warren is back at home again on Monday as they host the McDowell Trojans for a 4 p.m. start at Old Legion Field.
