Fueling the one side

Dear Editor, It is unfortunate that one of the first impressions visitors have of Warren is the electronic sign near the Glade Bridge, but I’ll address the latest misinformation just to add some perspective. Contrary to the sign, Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, a technology company that analyzes real-time fuel prices, says, “The president has no control over what U.S. oil companies do. Companies produce at their will to meet market demands.” As people may recall, demand in 2020 fell to the extent that the price of a barrel of crude oil fell below $0 ...

No one is above law

Dear Editor, So Gov. Tom Wolf’s ballot being submitted by his wife is “an honest mistake?” May I claim speeding is an honest mistake, that should I decide to shoplift, it, too, is an honest mistake, to use someone else’s credit card is an honest mistake? No, laws don’t work that way. I am held accountable for breaking the law. The laws are either for everyone or for no one. Being a “leader of the people” should bring even more accountability for not following the laws of the land. No way should this be winked at, as though it’s OK. Accountability, ...

Games become costly

Dear Editor, So the U.S. is being sued, piecemeal and in a class action lawsuit, for separating immigrant children and their parents — and sometimes apparently losing the children. Whether you think they were illegal immigrants — and therefore that was OK - or not, my guess is the immigrants are going to win in court and the U.S. is going to have to pay. Sometimes a business gets carried away and claims its cookies contain real strawberries when really maybe they don’t. If they get sued, they sit down and try decide whether it would be cheaper just to pay the people some amount ...

History matters

Dear Editor, There are seven social sciences: anthropology, economics, geography, gistory, political science, psychology and sociology. The teaching/study of the social sciences is to develop capable citizens who are empowered with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to make informed and responsible decisions in a diverse and interdependent world – to give students an understanding of the real world around them – to learn about places, cultures, and events around the world – what conspired to make them the way they are and make inferences about how the rest of the world ...

‘Concrete’ results

Dear Editor, There are a lot of young and old people who know nothing but a concrete existence. They live in cities, work in cities, their entertainment is in cities and their entire life is surrounded by concrete. They gather in downtown bars or coffee shops to solve the problems of the world. They love to talk politics for hours on end and you’ll not find the lion’s share registering as anything but democratic. They ride the train or bus to work and they breathe combustion fumes all day. Chances are most are college graduates and they often work in the high-rise office ...

Devil in details

Dear Editor, The word “bundle” is defined as: a number of like things tied, wrapped or otherwise held together. The word was never intended to be a legislative strategy or be the means of limiting debate on hundreds of items in the bundled massive expenditures currently labeled “Biden’s Build Better Bill. Henceforth, I will refer to that proposed legislation as “Biden’s, Brainless, Budget-Busting, Bill.” or “BBBB, Bill.” I am opposed to this bill because it was done in secret, and the bill’s contents that we know about are wasteful and includes programs that ...
