Dear Editor, For years the nation has had a serious shortage of long-haul truck drivers. Trucks are the final link in the supply chain that stretches around the globe, The American Trucking Association’s motto is “If you got it, a truck brought it.” The situation is worse now because there are other weak links in the supply chain. There is also a shortage of containers, container ships, and container port personnel. Biden’s plan to operate the container ports 24/7 might solve only part of the problem. Dear Editor, Kudos to the men and women of the Russell Volunteer Fire Department for the excellent Safety Day on October 2. It was organized, educational and lots of fun. Dear Editor, As the Texas Heartbeat Act is igniting more debate on abortion, it is important to define the words and phrases used in this debate. What exactly are reproductive rights? The right to choose to use contraceptives: birth control pills, IUD, injection, condoms (male and female), diaphragm, cervical cap, sponge, vaginal ring, implant, birth control patch and spermicides. Some bad medicine

Dear Editor, In response to a recent commentary by Leonard Pitts article “Goodbye, and good riddance to vaccine stubborn.” I would like the Times Observer to say goodbye, and good riddance to any more of Mr. Pitts’ commentaries. I am not being stubborn about taking the vaccine, I am raising ethical objections to vaccines. Pitts makes the equation of making it look like a freedom issue using a common refrain, “There’s no freedom no more,” citing examples as ridiculous as “can’t smoke in a movie theater” to “Can’t post the Ten Commandments in a courtroom,” ...

Sink or swim with launch?

Dear Editor, Just finished the Oct. 13 article about the boat launch that will apparently save all of Warren’s problems. Warren will have more than $500,000 a year in economic impact as a conservative estimate based on 10,000 launches. Wow, that’s great, only problem I see is that is 27.3 launches a day for the entire year. This would be dead of winter with ice, snow and maybe even a high of only 10 degrees or so.
