Buying from home

Dear Editor, Recently, dozens of container ships waited for days to unload at West Coast ports. Ultimately, some containers are hauled by trucks. Huge numbers are hauled by trains. Such “double-stacked” trains regularly move through Erie as well as the Horseshoe Curve at Altoona. CSX trains average 7,500 feet long and Norfolk Southern averages 7,000 feet The situation is a clear reminder of our heavy reliance on imports. In September, our trade deficit was $80.9 billion, according to tradingeconomics.com Another reminder is the word “imported” on product descriptions of ...

Vaccines and patriotism

Dear Editor, Try to keep this under your hat. I don’t want this getting out. But I was watching one of those fake news shows the other day and one of their high-hat elitist reporters talked about George Washington mandating vaccines for the men in his Continental Army! Seriously? How could General GW come up with vaccines for smallpox in 1776 when viruses were not even discovered until 1892? Virology in the 18th century? I don’t think so. But I was wrong. The Continental Army was in trouble. A good portion of the Army — 10,000 troops — were in Quebec, ironically under ...

Bright idea for hunting

Dear Editor, The bike hike trail is a really good idea and is very appreciated by all who use it. Our problem is ,which I am going to say a lot of hunters will agree, that when people are using the bike hike trail during hunting season — deer and bear — they should be required to wear orange. Hunters during this time are using high powered rifles and are required to wear orange so they won’t get accidently shot. Yes most hunters will identify their targets but not all abide by this rule. When a biker or hiker wears all black, which there has been many during bear ...

A note of appreciation

Dear Editor, During this time of gratitude and thanksgiving, we would like to thank the following people in the Warren community. Scott and Kelly Newton organized and implemented a COVID booster event that is ongoing with the help of the Allegheny Community Center and Experience, Inc. Warren/Forest Agency on Aging. We were able to register on line and set a date for our COVID booster vaccine. Upon entering the Allegheny Community Center, we were given clipboards with the documentation and several young people circulated to help those in correctly filling out the information. ...

No masking numbers

Dear Editor, I drove past the anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-mandate rally recently at the courthouse corner. I could not believe that so many supposedly intelligent people were so passionate about nonsense. It is people like these who brought on the mandates because they would not do what they should have to protect themselves, their families, and those around them. The COVID is burgeoning again. It should have been under control by now. Bruce Williams, Warren

Don’t forget USS Liberty

Dear Editor, As our elected representatives honor American veterans, it is important that they speak out in support of the USS Liberty veterans who survived Israel’s attempt to sink their ship with all men aboard. These veterans are still waiting for justice. These men never saw justice. It’s long past time for Congress to act. For too long, the Israel lobby has gotten away with calling these American veterans ‘antisemitic’ for proving the attack that killed 34 of their shipmates was deliberate. For too long, the U.S. news media have gotten away with misrepresenting the attack ...
