Steering clear

Dear Editor, I want to thank the new mayor and council for not giving up on trying to get rid of that dumb roundabout. Not many of us want it for several reasons. I think it may be worth whatever it costs to get it stopped. So please keep up the fight. While you are at it, could you check and see if there is any way they can get rid of those, or at least some of those, “No turn on right” at those intersections? That’s another waste of time and gas. The price of gasoline is really high and going much higher. If Dave Wortman was the mayor when this roundabout was first ...

‘Selfish’ decisions

Dear Editor, I am not resistant to change at all. I am, however, resistant to people who represent me that do things I do not wish to have done This roundabout is ridiculous. Yes, we have had the chance to drive around one or two. What does Warren need one for? That intersection allows people to cross it and appears to do what is needed. My resistance again is to the elected people who do what they want without the people on board. Nobody ever asked me to vote. Don’t fix what is not broken just because the money is there. There is no logic in any of this at all. I don’t ...

Dark times

Dear Editor, With Vladimir Putin’s horrifying invasion of Ukraine, various conspiracy theories serving to justify these unforgivable acts and to undermine the efforts of America and its NATO allies to support Ukraine and its people are now being pushed by certain media outlets and personalities. Certainly the proliferation of such conspiracy theories during times such as these is not surprising, serving as yet another dark thread in this evolving fabric, and of course propaganda is another weapon used in every war — and one which Russia has become highly skilled at using. But to ...

Praise for plowers

Dear Editor, Just a few words about some unsung heroes: snowplow drivers. They are out there first thing when a storm hits. Just want to thank all drivers. Carman Fadale, Tidioute

Thinking outside circle

Dear Editor, Why are we so resistant to change? And why does it often feel like that resistance is merely to be contrary? I have driven roundabouts, rotariesm traffic circles since learning to drive, especially in New England. They keep traffic moving and eliminate the frustration of sitting and waiting for the light to change, especially when the traffic is light. There is a small learning curve, but these newer circles are well marked and if you miss your exit, you just go around again. The one in Dunkirk-Fredonia, N.Y., makes getting to Interstate 90 much faster. The ...

Case for Critical Race Theory

Dear Editor, Critical Race Theory is in the news lately. Many people, mostly in the South, but all over the country, are opposed to teaching it in schools. Why? What is Critical Race Theory? It is the idea that our country, in the past, has mistreated certain minority races and it has had long term consequences on our country, Most obviously CRT relates to slavery, segregation, Ku Klux Klan, lynchings, discrimination, Jim Crow laws, and general racism. CRT also includes our exploitation of Chinese “Coolie” labor to build our transcontinental railroads in the 1800s. CRT also ...
