Dear Editor, In response to the April 7 Times Observer article, “Statue proposal receives frosty reception,” the foolishness of revisionist history could use an explanation. The article noted “Washington’s history as a slave owner” as a reason not to erect a statue of him. Washington was a slave owner as were a huge number of persons worldwide. Washington became uneasy owning slaves, and his actions may have been the beginning of the end of slavery in the U.S. He was a leader in the emancipation of his personal slaves.
