A better U.S. Dear Editor, Give us a candidate: ¯ That knows what governing means, and age is not an impairment. ¯ That will campaign vigorously and defend the views through honest debates. ¯ Understanding what the job entails without staff to offer explanations. ¯ That will tell the truth and actually accept responsibility by letting the “buck stop here” when it is warranted. ¯ Who will make certain the media and government agencies are truthful with the people who depend on them. ¯ Who will not allow “wokeness” to engulf the population with its ...

Deacon moving on Dear Editor, I have been assigned to serve in Erie this summer at Our Lady of Peace parish. I greatly enjoyed writing for the Times Observer. The faith series on kayaking, hunting, football, and the saints were a joy to write about the last nine months. Know of my appreciation for those who read these articles. I am also grateful to Times Observer for giving me the opportunity to write. It was a gift to serve at St. Luke and St. Joseph parishes in Warren County with Fr. Rick Tomasone. I ask for prayers as I serve in Erie this summer, in Baltimore this upcoming ...

Stuck with a circle Dear Editor, Kudos to to letter writer Steven A. Sigmund for his well thought out and crafted letter about the rip off roundabout (April 24). His commentary hits the nail that not only I, but probably most citizens in Warren think about this travesty occurring downtown. Nobody wanted it including most of the current council plus many of the area businesses but former mayor and current councilman Maurice Cashman and Phil Gilbert and company that voted for it and got re-elected. Now has come to fruition and we are stuck with it. The writer also pointed out ...

One officer had to go to Kane Hospital and received five stitches for a lacerated lip. He also suffered a forehead contusion. Despite a violent attack against two officers who are law-abiding members of the community, the inmate pleaded guilty to ...

Staying close to home Dear Editor, When I was growing up in Sheffield during the ’50s and ’60s there were two grade (elementary) schools, one on each side of town — Lincoln and Washington. Most of us walked to school and were familiar with the neighborhoods and its residents. If I got in trouble at school, I also got in trouble at home. There was always good-natured banter between the schools as to which had the prettiest girls, the toughest guys and the best athletes. When I was in the fifth grade, part-way through the year 1962-63, both schools were closed, and the ...

Nation a ‘fiasco’ Dear Editor, It’s time for Socialist Dems to shed the scales on their eyes in order to see the reality of the President Joe Biden administration. They thought they were getting a unifier; how mistaken they were in what the election produced. He wants to “finish the job.” That sounds like a threat—not something positive in my opinion. Do we as a nation have to endure more of this fiasco after 2024? I certainly hope not. Looking at the country now, we have: ¯ Open borders with chaos and corruption running rampant. ¯ Inflation. ¯ Energy ...
