Sad year in politics

Dear Editor,

This is a sad year for American politics! American standards have hit a low point when two dishonest candidates are our only choice for president. I had though this only happens in third world nations, full of corruption.

When I was a young elementary student, we learned two phrases based on American presidents, “I cannot tell a lie,” from George Washington and “Honest Abe,” from Abraham Lincoln. What are Americans going to learn from Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton? I think most educated Americans can answer that, “It’s ok to hide the truth, and telling lies is how you run for president.”

I hoped both candidates would be disqualified for lying to Americans, hiding emails, or not disclosing taxes. The American people have no idea why emails needed erased, but it can only be disqualifying, or Hillary won’t have erased the mail. As for Trump, he continues to dodge the question of tax release, which is critical to becoming an honest candidate. Who does Trump really owe and would it disqualify him from president?

My wish is the one dishonest candidate elected and get impeached the first month. The two vice-presidents seem to meet a higher standard for President of the United States.

Thank you,

Ben O’Neill, Sr.
