City to go ahead on grant app for Point Park

Warren City Council agreed on Monday to go after a grant for the rehabilitation of the portion of Point Park across the street from the CAR Pool.

The highlights of the project include a new playground, pavilion and parking area, amid other improvements.

City Engineer Chad Yurisic recommended a poured rubber safety surface for the playground and similar to what can be found at Lacy and Crescent parks.

While it’s more expensive, Yurisic said it is ADA accessible and lasts for many years. Wood chips weren’t recommended because of the likelihood they would be carried over to the pool.

He said the total project is esteemed at $369,900 and, if awarded, the work would most likely happen next year.

Half would be funded by a state grant with the remaining 50 percent — about $185,000 — coming from the city’s general fund in 2024 and 2025.

In other park-related items, Director of Codes and Planning Randy Rossey told council that the Comprehensive Plan Task Force has developed a survey for the future of Mulberry Park that will go before the Parks, Recreation and Landscape Commission later this month.

He said the goal would be to have the survey sent out early next month.
