City sets schedule for spring cleanup

There may be snow in the forecast throughout this week but city officials are planning the details for this year’s spring clean-up effort.

The annual effort will kick off on April 8.

“Items and materials to be collected include leaves, hedge and brush clippings, tree limbs and branches,” city officials said in a statement. “Lawn refuse must not be mixed with tree limbs and branches but should be placed in containers such as plastic bags or cardboard boxes.”

Residents are asked to pile leaves separately and not mix them with other material and also pile tree limbs and branches separately with cut ends facing the same direction.

Stones, bricks, concrete, boards and dirt are some of the items that city crews won’t pick up.

“Items to be collected should be placed near the curb or edge of street pavement, not within the street itself and should be set out for collection as close as possible to the appropriate collection day,” per the city, “but no later than 7 a.m. of the day scheduled.”

Here’s the tentative area-by-area schedule for the cleanup: Monday, April 8, east city limits to Parker St.; Tuesday, April 9, Parker St. to Irvine St.; Wednesday, April 10, Irvine St. to Prospect St.; Thursday, April 11, west of Prospect St., south of E. Third Ave.; Friday, April 12, E. Third Ave. to Frank St.; Monday, April 15, Frank St. to Connecticut Ave.; Tuesday, April 16, Connecticut Ave. to Quaker Hill Rd.; Wednesday, April 17, Water St. to Hazel St.; Thursday, April 18, Hazel St. to west city limits; Friday, April 19, area south of the Allegheny River.

“This is the only collection program the city provides,” the city said. “Cooperation of residents is appreciated and will help contain the increasing costs for providing these services.”
