Angling for more: About 1,700 trout added to Chapman Lake

A whole truckload of fish was added to the waters at Chapman State Park on Monday.

About 1,700 trout — rainbow and brown — ranging from about 10 to 18 inches in length were stocked Monday morning into Chapman Lake from the Corry Fish Hatchery.

Fish Culturist Toby Goble handled the work for the hatchery and a group of volunteers helped him put fish in at two locations on the lake.

“The trout up here do really well,” Goble said. “This is a really good, cold lake.”

The lake has traditionally had two stockings each year — except for the years when it was drawn down.

There is a pre-season stocking and an in-season stocking, like Monday’s.

The fish are not going to breed — they are intended to improve the fishing in the lake.

“The idea is these fishermen can take the fish,” Goble said.

There were several anglers near the mooring when he arrived with the truck.

Some of those fishermen and a few others who had not been fishing, helped Goble by attaching and detaching tubes that moved the fish from the tanks in the truck to the water of the lake.

A group accompanied him when he drove to the second site.

Starting at $3.50/week.
