Additional rape charges filed against Sheffield man

A Sheffield man recently arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting children faces additional rape charges.

Lorn Champlin, 63, of Sheffield, was charged Friday with two counts of rape of a child, two counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, two counts of unlawful contact with a minor – sexual offenses, two counts of aggravated indecent assault – without consent, two counts of aggravated indecent assault – complainant less than 13 years old, two counts of indecent assault – person less than 13 years old, and two counts of corruption of minors.

According to court documents, the most recent charges are related to alleged incidents from 2020.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, a girl told interviewers at the Warren County Children’s Advocacy Center that Champlin had had sexual contact with her when she was eight or nine years old.

She told interviewers that the alleged incidents took place at Champlin’s Sheffield residence.

Champlin was arraigned on the new charges Monday before District Judge Raymond Zydonik who set bail at $50,000 and scheduled a preliminary hearing for 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14.

Last week, Champlin was in Warren County court for a preliminary hearing on similar charges – three counts of rape of a child, three counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault – person under 13 years old, indecent assault – person under 13 years old, indecent exposure, and corruption of minors.

One of the three girls Champlin had previously been accused of assaulting testified at that hearing.

Following that hearing, which resulted in Champlin’s case being bound over to the court of common pleas, Champlin was informed that he faced 17 counts of felony firearms possession.
