Rep. Ken Klakamp announces commissioner bid

Ken KLakamp, a former sheriff, is running for Warren County Commissioner.

Former Warren County Sheriff Ken Klakamp has announced his bid for Warren County Commissioner.

Klakamp, a Republican and 1974 graduate of Youngsville High School, served with the United States Army as a Military Policeman at Fort Dix, N.J., for three years, completing Military Police School as an honor graduate, and attaining the rank of sergeant.

He was sheriff for nine years and served in the sheriff’s office much longer. He was also an officer with Youngsville Borough Police Department.

“During my 43 years of service, I wore many hats – 911 Coordinator, County Detective assigned to the Drug Task Force, Jail Warden, Interim Emergency Management Director, Deputy Sheriff, Chief Deputy, and Sheriff,” Klakamp said. “While sheriff, I implemented the School Resource Officer Program… successfully implemented the… office’s K-9 program… and implemented single point of entry into the courthouse.”

Klakamp said he would expect to have a smooth transition to the commissioners office. His duties as sheriff included supervising staff, preparing a budget, and working with the various county offices.

“I feel that with my training and experience, I can be an asset to the residents of Warren County and not have the process of learning each of the offices that serve the residents of the county,” he said.

Klakamp would bring some particular agendas to the table as commissioner, he said: completing a countywide reassessment and supporting efforts to expand broadband internet availability.

Starting at $3.50/week.
