Board approves sales as district returns to school

Warren County School District is having some back-to-school sales.

At Monday’s school board committee meetings, board members talked about selling off one of the district’s unused properties.

“We put the old Sheffield Elementary School out for bid,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said. “We do have someone interested in that facility.”

The building has not been used as a school since 2013.

According to an item approved unanimously at a special board meeting Monday night, Taylor Diversion Program of Tionesta offered $20,000 for the Pickering Street property.

“This would authorize (Solicitor) Chris (Byham) to go through the paperwork to sell that property,” Stewart said.

The agreement specifies that no portion of the property may be used as a private or charter school for students in grades kindergarten through 12.

Auction

The district is offering up more portable property at a public auction.

The auction will start at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the old Pleasant Township Elementary School, on McKinley Avenue. A preview will open at 9 a.m.

The district has not held an auction in a few years.

“We’re ready to have a public auction again,” Stewart said.

Among the items for sale are vehicles – a 2005 dump truck with plow, 2006 light pick-up, 1999 box truck, and a tractor; 75-inch SmartTouch televisions, projectors, an automotive lift, air compressors, and school furniture.

“There are a lot of people who would like to get these old smartboards,” Stewart said.

The district doesn’t have a way to determine the value of the used smartboards, she said, so the auction will help establish that value.

Start of school

With students returning to school Wednesday for the start of the 2022-2023 school year, Board President Paul Mangione passed along his best wishes for a successful year.

“Best of luck to everybody,” he said. “Hopefully this will be a normal year, whatever normal is.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
