Tionesta man jailed on sexual assault charges
A Tionesta man is in Warren County Jail on charges of sexual assault of a child.
Dennis A. Carnahan, 70, of Tionesta, faces two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, three counts of aggravated indecent assault of a child, two counts of indecent assault — less than 13 years of age, one count of endangering the welfare of children, and two counts of corruption of minors.
According to investigators, Carnahan repeatedly sexually assaulted a child who was under the age of 10. Court documents show alleged offense dates in 2007.
In the affidavit of probable cause, investigators said Carnahan allegedly touched the child inappropriately, had the child touch him, performed oral sex on the child, and had the child perform oral sex on him.
Police also said Carnahan watched and looked at pornography in the presence of the child.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Carnahan threatened to hurt the child if anyone ever found out. The alleged victim “remembers being so afraid” after one incident “but couldn’t tell because the defendant said he would hurt” the child.
Police said the victim reported the alleged assaults later, after experiencing behavior and sleep problems and having memories of being assaulted.
Carnahan was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Daniel Miller and taken to jail after failing to post $150,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 8.
