A garage in North Warren was destroyed by fire late Monday night, but the house was saved by the efforts of firefighters from several departments.

The call went out at 11:32 p.m. after a neighbor reported the fire at 121 Jackson Run Road, according to North Warren Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Shawn Jones.

There were people in the house when the fire broke out, but all were able to evacuate safely, Jones said. “They did have working smoke detectors.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined, and Jones said there is no reason to believe it was suspicious in nature.

“The garage is a total loss, but we were able to stop it before it got to the main part of the house,” he said. “The guys did an excellent job.”

The house did suffer “smoke and water damage throughout,” Jones said.

Firefighters from the City of Warren Fire Department, and Pleasant, Starbrick, Lander, Russell, and Sugar Grove volunteer fire departments joined North Warren firefighters in battling the blaze.

The Red Cross also responded to the scene and is helping the family, as are family and friends, Jones said.

Nearby houses were threatened, but not damaged by the blaze.

“The fire was brought under control at 1 a.m.,” Jones said. “We were on scene for about four hours.”

“All companies worked together extremely well,” he said. “The outcome would not have been the same without the high level of teamwork and collaboration. I appreciate all of the mutual aid wholeheartedly.”
