Parks & Rec panel to continue Washington Park discussion
The City of Warren Parks & Recreation Commission has laid out a path to continue the discussion on the future of Washington Park.
The City of Warren has contracted with Mackin Engineering for the development of a conceptual plan with preliminary recommendations ranging from doing nothing to full mountain bike trail development.
Matthew Lokay with Mackin told the commission during Tuesday’s meeting that he needs consensus on how to move forward in order to develop the plan.
“Once we pick one of these options,” he said, “(I) will come up with a concept plan and cost estimate.”
That plan will ultimately be utilized for potentially procuring grant funding.
Parks & Rec Chair Mike Suppa said the committee hasn’t had a chance to discuss the issue since a June public hearing was held.
“We have not met since that meeting,” Suppa said. “I think everybody has some things they need to say and want to say.”
Lokay told the commission that he thinks it’s important to ensure that any future development be supported by the well lease owner for the wells located on that parcel.
He told the commission that there were citizens at the public meeting that liked each option.
The committee isn’t set to meet again until December but will be holding a special meeting to focus on this issue. That meeting has been set for Oct.19 at 4:30 p.m. at the municipal building.
“The public got quite an opportunity to speak at that meeting,” Suppa said. “The options haven’t changed. They spoke to the options.”
