Annual city paving program to begin this week
Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry The long-awaited paving of Fifth Avenue from Conewango Avenue to the City of Warren limits is underway with a paver and crew from IA Construction putting down a base coat on Monday. That project is not part of the city’s annual paving program which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
The City of Warren’s annual paving project will begin this week.
“We’re going to tentatively start milling on Wednesday,” Public Works Superintendent Joe Reinke said. The list starts with Eagan Place from Beech to the dead end, Langdon Drive from Market to Clark, Liberty Street from Fifth to Sixth, Pine Street from Allegheny to Levee, and Struthers Street from Pennsylvania to Allegheny on day one – Wednesday, June 30.
The schedule for Thursday, July 1, includes Brook Street from Fifth to Roy and from Pioneer to Terrace, Fifth Avenue West from Market to Hickory, and Terrace Street from Conewango to Brook.
The third day of milling, Friday, July 2, will see work on Buchanan Street from Jefferson to Verbeck, Third Avenue from Conewango to the bridge, and Verbeck Street from Conewango to Redwood.
Monday, July 5, is the final day for the milling project, weather permitting.
The following streets will be milled: Averil Street from Madison to the dead end, Bradley Street from Dobson to Pennsylvania, and Parker Street from Pennsylvania to Madison.
The Crescent Park basketball court is also on the paving project list.
The work is being done by IA Construction. There will be no impact to the Fourth of July Parade, Reinke said.
The blocks on the list will be closed to parking on the day of scheduled milling and to traffic during milling.
“The streets will remain milled for a couple weeks until IA comes back through and puts on the scratch coat,” Reinke said.
That work is tentatively scheduled to start on July 12. The top coat finishes the job and will not fall long after the scratch coat.
