Bear Lake man with 23 license suspensions charged in stop

BUSTI, N.Y. — A Pennsylvania man with more than 20 past suspensions to his driver’s license is facing charges after police found him in possession of cocaine while sitting in his vehicle Friday afternoon.

Officers with the Lakewood-Busti Police Department received a complaint around 12:15 p.m. for a vehicle on Forest Avenue Extension. The vehicle was later located at the five corners in Busti.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Shane D. Rodgers of Bear Lake, was observed sitting in the vehicle with a small bag in his lap containing a white substance. Rodgers was taken into custody, and the bag was later found to contain 1 gram of cocaine.

Rodgers was also in possession of a hypodermic needle, the Lakewood-Busti Police Department said in a news release.

A check of Rodgers’ license showed that he had 23 suspensions in New York state. His license was also reportedly suspended in Pennsylvania.

The Bear Lake man was transported to the Lakewood-Busti Police Department and issued tickets on charges of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic instrument, second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlicensed operator.

Rodgers was eventually turned over to the New York State Police due to an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
