Judge sentences two
Two men were sentenced during a special Warren County sentence court proceeding in front of Judge Maureen Skerda on Friday.
Matthew A. Brown, 27, Warren, was sentenced to 30 days to two years minus one day in Warren County Jail, eligible for work release and early-reentry, one year of consecutive probation, court costs, fees of $425, a $1,000 fine, a drug and alcohol evaluation, complete Parenting 1-2-3-4 class, and 120 hours of community service, for criminal attempt – simple assault.
According to Skerda, Brown struck a two-year-old child in the face, leaving a hand mark. Skerda did not put a no-contact order in place, leaving that decision up to children and youth services.
Shawn C. Dubiel, 44, Warren, who had spent the last eight days in Warren County Jail after having his bail revoked for being under the influence of alcohol at sentence court last week, was sentenced to one year of probation with SCRAM electronic monitoring until adult probation recommends it is no longer needed, court costs, fees of $425, a $350 fine, restitution of $3,653.66, no contact with the victim, engage in the county’s cognitive behavioral program, and 50 hours of community service for unlawful acts – not licensed as pharmacist.
Skerda asked Dubiel about a statement he made in court last week when asked why he was under the influence. “You said it was because you were tired,” she said. “That wasn’t the case, was it?” Dubiel did not speak for several seconds before agreeing, “No, your honor.”
