Forest Service
seeking volunteers
The Forest Service has announced that Allegheny National Forest officials are extending the public outreach period to fill committee member seats for the Secure Rural Schools Allegheny Resource Advisory Committee (RAC) that covers Elk, Forest, McKean, and Warren Counties. The deadline for applications is now Oct. 28. Five new RAC members are needed. Anyone interested is encouraged to apply. RACs were established as a provision of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000. The legislation sets aside funding for projects that improve watershed function and promote community economic development. Typically, the Secure Rural Schools Allegheny RAC meets once a year to review and make recommendations on project proposals submitted for this funding.
