Free books at Halloween Read and Treat locations

With Halloween just around the corner, Warren resident Ruby Wiles is hosting Halloween Read and Treat events in Warren and Jamestown.

Wiles is the founder/director of Allegheny Creations, a social enterprise, and of Free Books for Kids Town, a Warren non-profit. 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of Wiles offering Halloween Read and Treat, now a registered trademark of Allegheny Creations. This year it will be used with permission at these locations:

¯ 3 Redwood Street, Warren;

¯ 410 Hickory Street, Warren;

¯ Warren Public Library, 205 Market St., Warren;

¯ 3 Barker St., Jamestown;

¯ UUC Jamestown, 1255 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown.

Read and Treat events will be Monday, Oct. 31. Warren Public Library hours are 4 to 7:30 p.m.; all the others are 6 to 8 p.m.

“Most people would be surprised how many kids don’t have any books of their own,” said Wiles. “A book is a gift that keeps on giving: No amount of candy can compete with the amount of knowledge and inspiration a child can obtain from a single book.”

Any individual, business or organization that would like to become an official participant in Halloween Read and Treat can contact Wiles at HalloweenReadAndTreat@gmail.com for guidance on how to get started, the importance of letting children choose their own books, and more.
