Schorman Center Memory Garden opens at the Hospice office

On May 20, Hospice nurses, social workers, grief counselors, Advisory Committee and Board members opened the Schorman Center Memory Garden in the backyard of the Hospice office.

Through the generosity of Mary Weiss, Advisory Committee President, the yard has been newly landscaped and teak furniture has been added.

The Memory Garden offers a private and comfortable place to sit, relax and remember.

The evening began with a candle lighting ritual: five candles were lit symbolizing grief, courage, memory, love, and hope. Ellen Scalise, Fran Leto, Jessica Bens, Barbi Zingone, Amy Punsky and Jodi Bevevino led the candle lighting.

Afterwards, everyone attending wrote the name of a loved one on a special memorial ribbon and then tied the ribbon on the Memory Tree, a weeping cherry.

Anyone interested in tying a ribbon on the Memory Tree to remember someone you love will find a container of ribbons and pens beneath the weeping cherry tree in the backyard of 1 Main Ave.

Starting at $3.50/week.
