Supporting customers

Dear Editor, Congratulations Warren officials, both elected and non-elected, for your taxpayer first stance on EMS response. This is a microcosm of what should be happening statewide and nationally. We have persons that can and should rely on themselves. If they do not, they are responsible for their inaction. It is not up to the Warren taxpayer to provide outliers what they are capable of but unwilling to provide themselves. Some fled city taxes by moving to the outlying townships or originally chose not to live in the city for the lower tax rates and lesser regulations ...

Many sold on Starbrick sale

Dear Editor, The new annual Starbrick Sale Day was a success! This was a wonderful way to bring the community of Starbrick together while clearing out items that were no longer wanted or used at the same time. The Starbrick Volunteer Fire Department sold out of their chicken barbecue and residents reported approximately 1,000 shoppers looking for a bargain! Blue Star Moms were receiving donations for homeless veterans and decorating yards with American flags in honor of those who served as a fundraiser for their organization. Lisa Marie Card, Warren

Note of gratitude

Dear Editor, I would like to thank Penelec and especially Tim Reynolds for setting up out food escort through Penelec. We serviced 70 veterans on April 30 with food, and this is fantastic. I would also like to thank our many volunteers that have been helping for several years. These girls and guys are from the American Legion Post 135 and the Elks Club 223. Dear Editor, Thankfully, we here in the United States are now finally rounding the corner on getting this terrible coronavirus under control, loosening pandemic-related restrictions, and returning to more normal lives. The current administration’s skillful efforts to ramp up vaccine distribution and get people vaccinated have proven wonderfully successful in bringing us to this point at last despite the extraordinary range of variables and obstacles involved. Dear Editor, 1. To launch a boat, kayak or fish on the Allegheny Reservoir boat launches you have to pay $5 per day or a yearly permit for $50. Why? 2. To camp at the campgrounds on the Allegheny Reservoir you have to pay a daily or weekly camping fee. Why? 3. To ride a bicycle on the bike trails at Jakes Rocks you can ride free. Why? The last I knew Jakes Rocks is still in the A.N.F. or does the W.C.C.B.I. own it? Is this a case of discrimination against the boat users and campers? 4. Minimum still too small

Dear Editor, There are several good reasons to raise the minimum wage to $16 per hour! It would decrease the number of people living in poverty. It would increase the number of people employed and decrease the number relying on Government assistance. It would improve the economy, giving more people buying power.
