Fetterman’s appeal

Dear Editor, I was very pleased to attend one of the several rallies in northwestern Pennsylvania this month to raise support for John Fetterman’s campaign for the United States Senate. Although he currently serves as lieutenant governor, Fetterman certainly doesn’t look or sound like a politician. He seems to be completely unpretentious. At first, it may seem that his humility would doom his aspirations, and yet ironically, it is this very down-to-earth demeanor that makes him so attractive. His campaign is clearly not about him, but about his constituents and that is ...

Three strikes

Dear Editor, This is a shout-out to the three letter writers who contributed to the Readers Speak column in the Saturday, Feb. 12 edition. The titles of the respective articles were: “Going in Circles,” “Truth and Fiction” and No help for health care.” Thank you for the clearly stated issues in regard to the three aforementioned topics! Amen and Amen! The position taken on the proposed Roundabout by Maurice Cashman and Phil Gilbert was ill-advised and unpopular with the general public, citizens of Warren, from the very beginning. The two of them were determined to ...

Leaving us ‘horrified’

Dear Editor, Where has patriotism and love of our freedoms and country gone? Why worry about an invasion of Ukraine when we’re being invaded 24-7 on our own southern border, Crime, drugs and terrorists are pouring in unchecked. The only stipulation these illegals have to do is vote any way they can for the radical left As a veteran, I should honor and respect our current president. But with this president doing absolutely nothing to protect us and our country how could I? Radical socialists control this president and destroy our country. It is a shameful disgrace. I hope the ...

Bolster our borders

Dear Editor, Extensive attention to the events of Jan. 6 and COVID have allowed under-reporting of President Joe Biden’s border disaster. It’s still there! Of course, Jan. 6 was disgraceful. So were, among other events, 100 nights of rioting in Portland. The left says less about that as there’s no connection to Trump. Advocates of loose borders include certain naive clergy, the Poor People’s Campaign and left-leaning officials. They ignore the dangers, such borders present to citizens and legal migrants. A pastor in ‘Sojourner’ newsletter foolishly equates strong borders ...

Unfair ruling

Dear Editor, Should Joe Biden follow through with his promise to appoint a Black woman to the Supreme Court, he could be practicing racism to the maximum. Don’t get me wrong. If that Black woman is the most qualified from our population, he would be doing well. However, if a black woman is appointed and he doesn’t look at brown, yellow, red, and white women, or a man, he commits racism at its worst. In America, everyone is created equal. Whether one advances in life is based on one’s determination and work to get ahead. Persons of every color have advanced to positions of ...

No option in hike

Dear Editor, This is in regard to the article noting that a Lancaster County Democrat Mike Sturla wants to give counties and municipalities the option to enact a 1% sales tax to help raise additional revenue. In my opinion, a tax is never optional for the people who live in a community. This is ridiculous. Mr. Sturla apparently wants to raise our sales tax so that the tax-exempt entities don’t have to feel the burn. Let’s put it into perspective. Most of us are making anywhere between $8,000 and $50,000.00 a year — give or take — and he wants to increase the tax so that ...
