Then & Now

Photo courtesy of the Warren County Historical Society/Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry Flooding on the Brokenstraw Creek is nothing new. This photo in the Historical Society’s collection shows the former Acocks Hotel in Pittsfield during a flood in 1913. The current structure appears to have been completed in 1911. James L. Acocks opened the first store in Pittsfield in 1840, according to Schenck’s 1887 History of Warren County, and bought the hotel property in 1837. The hotel was still in the Acocks family when Schenck’s book was published.
