Warren boys earn 8th shutout

GIRARD– Warren’s boys soccer team grabbed its eighth win of the season, and second of the week, all via shutout in a 3-0 nonregion win on Saturday at Girard.

Gabe Dougherty, Jack Chapman, and Finn Ordiway scored first-half goals for Warren (8-6-0), and the defense and goalkeeper Adon Maier ensured the win and the shutout. Maier finished with 13 saves. Quinn Norris finished with a team-high 20 steals.

Trey Carrington assisted two goals and Ordiway added an assist.

“Finn, Trey, Gabe and Quinn set the tone for us early with work rate and hustle plays,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair. “Effort and energy was the difference today. We’ve talked all week about how we need to outwork teams for 80 minutes, and we did that today.

“Finn, Gabe, and Jack Chapman did a great job exploiting space out wide and combining to create good opportunities in front of goal,” added Blair of Warren’s second straight win.”

Carrington and Chase Sitler added 17 steals apiece in the win.

“We defended well as a team and our back line was really impressive under pressure,” said Blair. “It was a complete team performance.”

Girard fell to 6-8-0 overall in its third straight loss.

Starting at $3.50/week.
