Dragons, Knights lose road games
EDINBORO — Warren’s boys soccer team tied the score at 1-1, but General McLane scored six unanswered goals to post a 7-1 win on Thursday to improve to 8-1 in Region 5.
“They were the better team tonight and sometimes it’s as simple as that,” said Warren coach Steffen Blair, whose Dragons are 4-5 in the region. “We responded well after going down 1-0. Quinn (Norris) and Jack (Chapman) gave good energy in the press at the top of the field to bring us back level. We weren’t at our best tonight, but we know that’s a team we have to go through if we want to reach our goal. That’s what motivates us to go back to work and come back better.”
Assisted by Chapman, Norris scored the lone goal for Warren, which was led in steals by Chase Sitler at 14.
KNIGHTS FALL TO
MERCYHURST PREP
ERIE — The Eisenhower boys soccer team traveled to Mercyhurst Prep on Thursday and were shut out 6-0 on the turf in a Region 4 game.
It was truly a tale of two halves as the Lakers scored five goals in the first half, and the game appeared headed for a double-digit win for Mercyhurst Prep but, according to Eisenhower head coach Mike Taylor, the Knights may have turned a corner in the loss.
“We let them walk all over us in the first half with ease, but in the second half we discovered our backbone and held their starters to just one goal.”
Despite the setback, Taylor said he received some fine efforts from his players.
“Case Seymour successfully defended the fourth penalty shot against us this season and I thought Jayce Lang had a good game as well as Bryceton Wilkins and Mason Degnan. I’m proud of the boys. They played so well in the second half. Hopefully, it sets the tone for us for the remainder of the season.”
The Knights are back in action at 1 p.m. today against Redbank Valley in a non-region game.
