Holiday camping offered

The Warren County Fairgrounds in Pittsfield will be offering holiday camping for the Fourth of July. Check-in will start at 11 a.m. on Friday with check-out on Sunday, July 5 by 2 p.m. There are several sites to choose from with water and electric hookups, restrooms with showers and a dumping station. For reservations or information call Sue at (814) 730-2890. All proceeds will benefit the improvement fund for the fair.

Firecracker Bingo party planned

Sugar Grove Free Library’s fourth annual Firecracker Bingo Party is scheduled for July 10 at 6 p.m. with doors at 4:30. Donation of $30 at the door and $25 before day of includes 10 Bingo cards.

Prizes include a $500 cash Grand Prize (donated by Briggs Trucking), gift cards and various prizes from local businesses. There will be a basket raffle, 50/50 drawing, pull tabs, pie auction, and door prizes. BYOB but food and non-alcoholic drinks are for sale by the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department. Bluegrass concert planned

The public is welcome to attend a free Community Bluegrass Concert featuring Denny & the Misfits on Saturday, June 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Brokenstraw Valley Campsites, 35210 Route 6, Pittsfield. There will be a free hot dog, kettle korn, Amish sugar cookie, and a bottle of water for each person until we run out. Bring your own lawn chair! This free community event is sponsored by Berea Lutheran Church, Brokenstraw Valley Campsites, WELCA, Thrivent®, Dykes Garage, Sweet Sarah’s Kettle Korn, Spring Creek Events, and Wrightsville Volunteer Fire Department. Meet the Author

JAMESTOWN — The Fenton History Center is holding a Meet the Author event at the Fenton Mansion on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Former resident, Edward T. Davis, III M.D. will be speaking about his recent works which will be published by the Fenton History Center.

They are a two-volume set entitled “The Early Years of Boating on Chautauqua Lake” which contains almost 600 pages of text, mostly consisting of newspaper articles dating from 1826 – 1888, the majority of which are from the Jamestown Journal, Jamestown Daily Journal and Jamestown Evening Journal. Accompanying the articles are 280 photographs/advertisements supplied by the Fenton History Center, the Chautauqua County Historical Society, the Chautauqua Institution Archives, the Davis collection of stereoviews of the Chautauqua Lake region dating from the 1870s – 1880s and several private collectors.

The second publication is “Life in a Chautauqua Lake Resort Community: The Early Years of Point Chautauqua, New York” tells the story of the evolution of Point Chautauqua from a Baptist colony in 1875, through the years of the Grand Hotel and ending in 1930, as it settled into a quiet summer and year-round community using period newspaper articles. It consists of 320 pages with 250 photographs.

Hands-On Day

BUSTI — The Busti Historical Society will once again hold Hands-On Day on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will showcase the 1839 mill’s operation, the campus which includes the 1846 Miller’s house, and museum.
