Golf scramble
The Larry Himes Memorial Golf Scramble was initiated by his family and friends last year as a venue to honor his life and his love of sports.
Himes excelled at playing football, basketball and baseball throughout his youth. He played football for two years at Bloomsburg University. He then went on to coach his four children and countless others over the course of 25 years, including coaching football at Eisenhower and Warren Area High School.
The proceeds of the scramble will help provide an annual college scholarship to a Warren County athlete through a Memorial Scholarship Fund that is managed by the Warren County Community Foundation. This year county seniors Shelby Lobdell, Nathan Lucks and Matthew DeSimone were each awarded scholarships.
This year the golf scramble will be held on Aug. 3 at Jackson Valley Golf Club. The participation fee will include a barbecue chicken and ribs dinner, and door prizes. Information regarding sponsorship opportunities as well as participation forms are available at the Jackson Valley Golf Course, 6927 Jackson Run Road, Warren, Pennsylvania; 814-489-7803; or Susan Himes, 814-779-3885, himessusan@gmail.com.
