Warren baseball falls in opener 2-0

Warren outhit General McLane, but fell to the Lancers, 2-0, on Tuesday at Old Legion Field.

“Tough one to start out with,” said Warren coach Andrew Morrison. “It was a cleanly played game on both sides. We just didn’t find the hits we needed at the right times.”

Brady Berdine doubled, Aiden Zdarko and Felix Valencia had base hits, and Carter Cochran added a hit and walk in the loss.

Berdine allowed two hits and walked five over five two-run (one earned) innings. Konnor Hoffman allowed one hit over two scoreless innings.

“Brady and Konnor both threw well,” said Morrison. “We had a couple of poorly timed wild pitches and a ground ball that got their runs in, while we flew out or struck out with the bases loaded a few times. That’s the game.”

Jordan Cannon struck out six for the shutout win.

“Credit to GM; Cannon pitched well,” said Morrison. “They always have a knack for putting the ball into play, which is huge. Brady only had two strikeouts in five innings. You won’t see that again this year.

“The nice thing about this one is we can put it behind us quickly with another region game at Corry Wednesday,” he said.
