Warren boys tennis sweeps Oil City, now 2-0

OIL CITY — Warren’s boys tennis team is 2-0 after a region-opening 5-0 sweep of Oil City on Wednesday.

“This was a great region win and a nice kick start to the season,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “Oil City has a solid team this year and provided a nice challenge for us.”

At first singles, Abe Wolf defeated Jackson Dilks, 7-5, 6-1.

“Jackson is one of the top players in the region and was up on Abe for the majority of the first set, utilizing his big first serve and forehand,” said Pellegrino. “After being down 3-4 in the first, Abe adjusted to the pace, extended the rallies, and really took over the match.”

At second singles, Adam Strandburg defeated Dylan Bly, 7-5, 6-1.

Playing third singles, Carson Moore defeated Simon Burkett, 6-1, 6-3.

“I was very impressed with the play out of all three of our singles guys today,” said Pellegrino. “They each played quality opponents, pushing them in each game, but were able to make the necessary adjustments to come out on top.”

In first doubles, the pair of Jack Lynds and Brody Alexander defeated Austin Meehan and Matthew Mylas, 6-3, 6-2.

At second doubles, Lucas Thrift and Tobiah Reinard defeated Logan Rakon and Gabe Loughrow, 6-1, 6-1.

“It’s always nice to start off region play with a ‘W,’ and we look forward to keeping this momentum going into two more (Region 1) matchups next week with Sharon and Kennedy Catholic,” said Pellegrino.

Ben Scott, Elliott Striker, Josh Westover, Owen Baldensberger, and Grady Corey all provided wins for Warren in junior varsity play.
