RUSSELL — Youngsville closed out a winning week with a dominant 12-1 victory over Eisenhower Friday at Werner Park.

The victory improves the Eagles record to 9-2 on the season, including an 8-2 mark in Region 3 play.

Youngsville wasted little time jumping on top of the Knights Friday, taking the lead for good just two batters into the game. Matt DeSimone led off with a single and scored on Talon Mesel’s RBI double to make it 1-0. James Johnson and Wyatt Dalrymple would add sacrifice flies later in the inning to make it 3-0 after one.

DeSimone started a little two-out magic in the second, collecting a two-out single and stealing second and third before coming home on Mesel’s second RBI of the night to make it 4-0.

Nathan Lucks produced a run all by himself in the third inning to push the advantage to five. After a single, Lucks moved to third and eventually stole home ahead of the tag of Knights catcher Griffin Williams for the run.

The Eagles lead swelled to seven in the fourth when Lane Buccardo walked and later scored on a passed ball. DeSimone then singled and stole a pair of bases before scoring on an error to make it 7-0 halfway through the game.

The Knights were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Williams and John Pascuzzi singled to start the inning and Mason Degnan brought home a run with an RBI single.

Further Ike damage was avoided thanks to a nifty inning-ending double play from the Eagles. Pitcher David Manning fielded a bunt and fired to first baseman Nathan Lucks for an out. Lucks then fired a dart to third baseman Braydon Baker to double up the Ike runner who had taken too large of a lead rounding third.

Buccardo reached on an error in the sixth and scored on a passed ball to get that run back and the Eagles plated four runners in the seventh to leave no doubt.

Lucks had a one out single and moved to third on Manning’s hit. Baker and Buccardo collected RBI singles that scored Lucks and Chase Myers respectively, Dalrymple scored on an overthrow at third base and Gavin Bundy raced home on a passed ball to conclude the scoring at 12-1.

The Knights began the seventh with a pair of baserunners but a popped up bunt was caught by catcher Cole Johnson who then threw to first for a game-ending double play.

DeSimone led the Eagles with three hits and three runs scored. Mesel, Lucks and Manning all had two hits and Mesel drove in a pair in the victory. Williams paced the Knights with two hits.

Both teams are back in action Monday with Youngsville traveling to Kane and Ike hitting the road to visit Iroquois.

While off the field until Monday, the Eagles will be hosting their annual baseball breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Sunday at the American Legion Post 135 in Warren.
