It’s the Lady Dragons’ turn.

Despite the program’s first District 10 championship game loss in five trips since 2016, Warren’s girls basketball team advanced to states for the sixth straight year. The Dragons will host a PIAA 4A playoff game against Elizabeth Forward at 1 p.m. today at Warren Area High School.

Warren is 20-5 after having its 15-game winning streak snapped a week ago in a 28-26 loss to back-to-back D10 champion Fairview.

The Dragons — who whipped General McLane 46-16 and edged Harbor Creek 32-31 to advance to the D10 final — had a chance to win the title at the buzzer.

Warren coach Lisa LaVan is confident the Dragons are past the emotions of the D10 playoffs and on to their next adventure.

“I am not too worried about the emotions with this team,” said LaVan, who has over 250 head coaching wins in 16 seasons. “They are a laid-back group and not much fazes them. They just go to work each game and get after it. We have to play with confidence right from the start, which I know this team will do.”

Elizabeth Forward (22-3) had won 17 straight before falling to North Catholic, which went on to win its third straight WPIAL title. Junior Chloe Zombek scored 20 points as No. 3-seeded EF won the District 7 4A third-place game, 58-45, over Laurel Highlands.

“EF is a very good team,” said LaVan. “Led by their senior and Clarion-commit Alyssa Terza, they like to push the ball and get after it, so it should be a good matchup for us.

“Six straight years for a state playoff game for this program,” said LaVan. “It does not get old. The team is very excited and ready to go. Motivation for sure as it has become the norm for us to win D10 titles. Last Saturday was a letdown, but we are ready to play one last game at home this year. The girls are very excited. This senior class deserves another home game — two D10 titles, two Region 5 titles and now four trips to states. I know they will savor this home game and be ready to go.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
