ERIE — With two freshmen leading the way, Warren finished first in points at Saturday’s McDowell Diving Invitational at McDowell Intermediate High School.

Behind Harbor Creek’s own freshman phenom, Kyra Guntrum, Warren divers Gracie Page and Kinzlea Chase finished second and third, respectively, on Saturday. With senior teammate Eliza Brook’s 13th-place finish out of 14 scoring, Warren placed first as a team with 37 points. Titusville was second with 32 points, followed by McDowell’s 31, General Mclane’s 26, Harbor Creek’s 20, and Cathedral Prep’s six points.

Guntrum’s 384.6 points won the 11-dive invitational, followed by Page’s 353.25 and Chase’s 345.

Each of Warren’s District 10-qualifying divers accomplished personal-best scores, including Brook’s 248.85 points.

“They had a blast today,” said Warren coach Brandon Gregg. “Gracie and Kinzlea battled back and forth all day… (Guntrum is) very talented, and a wonderful young lady. (She) was very supportive of the other divers.

“This invitational was for both 2A and 3A divers, but not all the participants competing at districts were in attendance,” added Gregg.

Warren competes at the D10 2A Diving Championships on Saturday, also at McDowell.

“We have made some adjustments to the (freshmen’s) diving cards that should boost scores,” said Gregg. “We are putting our best foot forward and pushing for a state competition spot or two.”
