LINESVILLE — Brady Berdine did what he could to help his father earn his 300th career win as head coach of the Warren boys basketball team. The senior captain scored 14 of his season-high 33 points in the Dragons’ 20-7 first quarter. Warren only had two other field goals in the opening quarter, but would warm up en route to a 72-43 Region 6 victory on Tuesday at Conneaut.

“300 wins means a lot of time invested during the season and the off-season, getting the opportunity to work with some great student-athletes, and having fun,” said Warren coach Jeff Berdine in his 23rd season. “I think sometimes you can be focused on the outcome too much and not enjoy the journey. This year, with the possible end in sight, I’ve tried to notice some of the things I may have overlooked in the past and let them sink in. I’ve had four of the seniors since they were in fourth and fifth grade; I am really trying to take the time to enjoy my last opportunities to work with them in this capacity and realize what great kids they have become.”

Senior Braylon Barnes added 17 points and Tommy Nyquist had four 3-pointers for 12 points as the Dragons improved to 14-4 overall and 4-3 in the region. Conneaut is 10-9 overall and 2-5 in Region 6.

Brady Berdine had 11 more points and four other seniors — Nyquist, Barnes, Konnor Hoffman, and Johnny Corbett — hit 3-pointers in Warren’s 26-12 third quarter to build a 33-point lead.

“I thought the kids brought energy early; just didn’t execute very well,” Coach Berdine said of the start of the game. “Once that clicked, we took off offensively. Our guys really did a nice job getting out in transition, making the extra pass, and knocking down the open shot.”
