WATERFORD — A valiant effort by the Warren County All-Stars came up just short in their bid for the District 3 Major Boys Championship.
The Warren County boys fell by a score of 10-5 to FLAG in the title game Friday night.
FLAG quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The score remained 2-0 until the bottom of the second inning when Jansen Walters scored on Raymond Yoder’s RBI triple.
Warren County threatened to score further after Liam Heverley drew a one out walk that put runners on the corners. A pop out and a strikeout ended the momentum with the score 2-1.
FLAG added three runs in the top of the fourth inning to push their lead to 5-1. However, Warren County generated some momentum to end the top half of the inning when they caught a FLAG runner trying to steal home.
Ackron Hoisington led off the bottom half of the inning with a double and advanced to third on a single by Glade Rulander. Rulander advanced to second on Titus Hoak’s ground out to put two runners in scoring position. Jansen Walters sacrifice fly scored Hoisington. Raymond Yoder added an RBI single to score Rulander and bring Warren County back within two runs at 5-3.
FLAG responded with four runs in the top of the fifth inning and one additional insurance run in the top of the sixth inning to extend their lead to 10-3.
Down to their final at bats, Warren County looked poised to come roaring back with Evan Wilcox and Ackron Hoisington hitting back-to-back singles to start the inning. Glade Rulander followed up their efforts by ripping a two-run double to center field to bring Warren County within five. Rulander would end up stranded at third when FLAG’s pitcher caught a routine pop fly to end the game.
Parker Stanton started the game for Warren County. Stanton pitched three innings while allowing three earned runs, six hits, and striking out three. Glade Rulander came on in relief, pitching three innings. Rulander struck out five and gave up two earned runs on five hits.
Warren County finishes their postseason run with a 6-2 record, both of their losses coming against FLAG. They collectively outscored their opponents 88-30 for a whopping +58 run differential.
