Rouse Estate announces opening of cafe, gift shop
The Rouse Estate is proud to announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for “1862 Rouse& Co.,” a newly renovated café and gift shop located within the Rouse Skilled Nursing Facility. The celebration will take place today marking the return of a cherished gathering space for residents, families, and visitors.
Originally known as the Dogwood Room, the space holds special meaning within the Rouse community, highlighted by its iconic stained-glass window featuring a blooming dogwood tree. After closing during the COVID-19 pandemic due to volunteer limitations, the area has now been thoughtfully reimagined into a warm and inviting destination that blends hospitality, convenience, and history.
“1862 Rouse & Co.” offers a unique, self-serve café experience alongside a boutique selection of snacks, gifts, and personal items carefully chosen with residents and families in mind. From comfort foods and specialty treats to plush gifts, plants, and everyday conveniences, the space is designed to enhance quality of life and create moments of joy.
Proceeds from purchases at “1862 Rouse & Co.” will support Life Enrichment activities at the Rouse Home, including special events such as the annual resident and family picnic.
The design of the space draws inspiration from Rouse’s rich history, incorporating natural elements and historical accents to evoke the feeling of a traditional town mercantile — once a central hub for community life and connection.
This project was made possible through a generous donation from resident Charlie Fox, whose support helped bring new life to this treasured space. His contribution reflects the enduring spirit of generosity and community that defines Rouse.
“We are honored to recognize Mr. Fox for his meaningful gift,” said Traci Stoddard, Life Enrichment Director and curator. “His generosity has created a space that will serve not only as a place of convenience, but as a place of connection and comfort for years to come.”
The Rouse Estate invites community members, residents, families, and supporters to join in celebrating this exciting addition.
