Lady Dragons fall in final Florida hoops game

TAMPA, Fla. — Three Columbia Central (Tennessee) players scored in double figures in a 50-24 win over Warren’s girls basketball team on Saturday in the Tampa Bay Christmas Invitational.

“They were the quickest team I have ever played against in my 16 years of coaching,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan, whose Dragons were 1-2 over the four-day tournament at Wiregrass Ranch Sports Complex. “We started to run out of gas. We also just struggled with our decision making and executing our offense.”

Alana Stuart led six Lady Dragon scorers with 9 points. Alyssa Farr and Sammie Ruhlman had 4 points each, and Halle Kuzminski and Caitlin Barney 3 apiece for Warren (5-4).

The Dragons led 15-13 in the first half before Columbia Central exploded for a 37-9 second half.

“This trip was absolutely unbelievable for our team,” said LaVan. “We beat the number three team in the state of Florida and battled against some phenomenal teams. We were in one of the top brackets down here because we chose to be in it. We are always looking to win every game we play, (but) this trip was about coming together as a team and also challenging ourselves so that we are ready for March.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
