The Youngsville junior high wrestling team headed to Commodore Perry High School over the weekend in search of competition.

The Eagles had a busy day filled with dual meets against quality opponents from Reynolds, Harbor Creek, Cochranton, Seneca and Commodore Perry.

In a day that featured many closely contested matches, Tucker Sanford paced the Eagles with three wins. Following closely behind Sanford, winning two matches each, were Brenton Myers, Ayden Dean, and Jacob Battko.

“You’ve got mixed feelings” said Coach Tim Suydan “On the one hand, I’m glad the season is finally underway. I’m also glad for the solid mat time we got in against tough opponents. On the other hand, we have some areas we need to work on and shore up.”

As for the bright spots of the outing, Coach Suydan had this to offer: “All of the kids gave me everything they had. They took some lumps and knocked off a bit of rust. But, they didn’t back down from the challenges I threw their way. They approached the challenges as an opportunity to learn and I feel they will come out better for it.”

As for what’s ahead, the junior high Eagles will be in action again on Dec. 19th when they travel to Union City for a dual meet. The Eagles then travel to Corry on Dec. 21 for another dual meet. They will then return home for the second annual Paul Clough Memorial JV/Junior High Tournament on Dec. 29.

Starting at $3.50/week.
