Ike comes close at districts
TITUSVILLE — Eisenhower’s cross country teams came a few places away from state qualifiers at Saturday’s District 10 1A championships.
“Joe Mistretta was just two places away from going to states,” said Ike coach Darlene Beach. “It’s tough to work so hard and be so close. He really came on strong the second half of the season and was a great leader for the team.”
Mistretta, a junior, finished 16th overall out of a field of 120 finishers. He ran the 3.1-mile race in 17:40, or five seconds off PIAA-qualifying place.
Running season-best times, junior Griffin Williams and freshman Easton Fitzpatrick were 50th and 51st, respectively, in 18:56 each; junior TJ McAuley was 96th in 20:59; and freshman Jonathan Bogniak finished in 29:21.
“The girls team ran super at districts, taking fifth place,” said Beach. “It was exciting and motivating for them to see that, as a team, they can compete for the top spots in the district. Emily Grosch was only four places away from making it the state meet. Most of the girls also ran season best times.”
Grosch, a junior, was 18th in 21:31. Sophomore Kierra Wismar was 25th out of 112 in 22:00. Freshman Isabelle Grosch was 40th in 23:00. Junior Peyton Kellogg was 44th in 23:18. Freshman Callie Delp was 64th in 24:26. Freshman Bryn Lindell was 73rd in 25:17. Sophomore Lillian Cathcart was 84th in 26:10.
“Both teams have come such a long ways from where they were a year ago,” said Beach, “and I’m proud of them for the hard work they’ve put in.”
