Dragons sweep McDowell

Warren’s volleyball team started strong and swept McDowell on Tuesday in a Region 5 match at Warren Area High School.

“Varsity came out with a lot of energy, and played very well in the first set,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan of the Dragons’ 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 win. “The rest of the match was more competitive against a good McDowell team. We did a nice job at the net, getting our blocks up and not giving them any uncontested swings. We also made quite a few athletic plays at the net and in the back row, which enabled us to turn defense into offense. We also covered well, giving our hitters additional chances to swing, and confidence to take the big swings when they’re available. Definitely another good region win against a quality team.”

Kylie Fehlman had 10 kills and two blocks, Alexia Bowers nine kills and 12 digs, and Maddy Jones six kills, eight digs and seven aces to lead the hitters. Lindsay Madigan finished with 28 assists and four kills, and Summer Lucks 19 digs and two aces. Madelyn Nosel had five kills and three digs, Lily Walker three digs, and Lilly Newton two kills and two blocks for Warren (4-0 in the region). McDowell is 3-2 in Region 5.

Warren’s JV team also won 25-19, 25-22. Lauren Fajbik had eight kills and eight digs; Tori Solberg four kills; Malysia Sorensen 11 digs; Brynn Norris 14 assists, four digs and two aces; Brooke Sherry two kills; Paiden Johnson five digs and two aces; Peyton Cabisca two aces and two digs; and Attie Corey two aces and two digs.
