Lady Dragons snap losing streak on Senior Night

Warren’s softball team scored nine runs from the fourth inning on in a 9-5 Region 5 win over Erie High on Tuesday at Lady Dragons Field.

The come-from-behind victory snapped a five-game losing streak and came after the Dragons honored their three seniors.

“Really glad we put a win up on Senior Night,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart, whose Dragons are 5-10 overall and 4-7 in the region. “Carly (Beers), Lexi (Hoffman) and Miken (Beers) all came through with hits when we needed them tonight. They really wanted this win in their last home game.”

Erie scored three runs in the top of the first inning on two hits, two walks and two errors.

Warren and its starting pitcher, Lilly Devore, held the Royals scoreless over the next three innings.

“Halle (Kuzminski) put a stop to a potential big inning for Erie with a double play at second base,” said Stuart. “That was a big heads-up play early in the game. Lexi made a nice diving catch at shortstop as well.”

Hoffman, Emma Gray, Alanna Warrior and Miken Beers had hits in a three-run bottom of the fourth to tie the game for Warren.

After Erie took a 4-3 lead in the fifth, the Dragons broke the game open. Carly Beers, Hoffman, Devore, Gray, Warrior and Miken Beers had singles in a four-run fifth. Carly Beers, Kuzminski, Hoffman and Gray added hits for two insurance runs in the sixth.

Carly Beers and Gray were each 3 for 3 with a walk, Hoffman 3 for 4, and Warrior and Miken Beers added two hits apiece. Kuzminski and Warrior had doubles in Warren’s 15-hit attack.

“Lily Devore pitched the complete game for us,” said Stuart. “She threw strikes and our defense made plays. It was a great effort by the whole team.”

Erie is 0-13 overall and 0-11 in the region.
